Thrift Store Volunteers:

We are looking for volunteers to join our Thrift Store/warehouse. Hours are Monday- Saturday from 9 am to 5pm volunteers will work with donated items, donors, customers, other volunteers and staff to maintain a positive working environment.  Volunteers in the thrift store are able to choose the times that work best for them, if you are interested in great customer service this is the position for you!! a minimum 2 hours per week is required for this position.

Food Recovery Team:

Our food recovery program (Food Mesh) is a program that runs about 2 hours per day 7 days per week Weekdays: 8:30 am to 10:30am and weekends 8 am to 10 am

Volunteers are responsible to assist in sorting donated items ranging from bakery, deli, dairy, meat and seafood, produce and grocery.  The food recovery program is a zero waste program that allows food to stay out of the landfills.  Volunteers are needed to track donations and weights (done on a tablet) as well we are looking for sorters that can judge the good from the bad and sort accordingly.  This job does require some lifting totes can range from 5 lbs to 50 lbs depending on the product.

Intake Volunteers (handing out food hampers):

Volunteers work one on one with our low income clients, families, seniors and anyone else with a local address and who have booked an appointment.  The volunteer will distribute the hamper and extras that are available.  Volunteer shifts are about 2.5 hours per timeslot, ranging either 9:30am to 12:00pm or 12:45pm to 3pm.  If you would like a rewarding opportunity working Monday to Friday volunteers can commit to one or more shifts during the week.

Food Bank Volunteers:

Volunteer shifts in the food bank range depending on the position you are in.  Food Hamper Volunteers are needed from 9am to 12 pm or later depending on availability.  The food hampers are made with nonperishable items that have been donated, volunteers will check expiry dates, build hampers, stock shelves and clean up and organize your space for the next volunteer at the end of your day.  This position does require some lifting up to 50 lbs at times.

Volunteers are also required to watch the Pantry (our bread room).  Volunteers can work between the hours of 10 am to 4pm and are assisting our homeless clients, low income, seniors and families with locally donated items.  We also run a food/baby voucher program, where clients can get emergency food to get them through to their hamper date or helping with our baby program etc.  Volunteers will be working on the front lines with our clientele.

Soup Kitchen Volunteers:

Volunteers will work from 8:30am to 1:30pm assisting our soup kitchen worker in preparing the meal of the day, basic prep work, light cleaning duties, dishwashing and serving our clients will be a few of the tasks assigned.  Volunteers serve lunch between 12pm and 1 pm and can serve up to 160 clients in that timeframe.  Volunteers serve our clients, clean up during lunch hour and leave once the work is completed for the day.

Data Entry Volunteer:

This volunteer position is a behind the scenes position, our data entry is an important part of what we do here at The Salvation Army.  Volunteers need to be comfortable using a computer, programs like excel are used as well as The Salvation Army’s Client Management system, as well as our new system Link to Feed will be taught. Volunteer shifts are anywhere from 9 am to 4 pm and volunteers can select their hours Monday to Friday. Must be ok working in an office environment and be ok sitting for lengths of time.

Reception Volunteer Needed Thursdays:

We are looking for a volunteer receptionist that is comfortable with a fast paced environment, we have a multi-line switchboard, working with clients to book food hampers in person and on the telephone, working with donors to collect and receipt donations, booking furniture pick ups on behalf of our thrift store, checking in food bank clients as well as anything else needing to be completed during the day!The shifts would be on Thursdays and it would be beneficial to have the volunteer in from 8:30am to 4pm each Thursday.
