DESCRIPTION:ONE DAY (5.5 hrs) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY \nSaturday March 8th (includes lunch)  10:00am to 3:30pm \n  \nBCLMA  was born of the vision\, passion and leadership of the founding members\, committed to building awareness and advocating for people living with lymphedema. Starting in 2002\, Catherine DiCecca\, an RMT and Dr Elliot Weiss\, a physiatrist had informal discussions regarding the lack of resources for lymphedema patients and the number of patients who went undiagnosed. \n  \nBC Lymphedema Association accomplishments have been significant\, but the challenges faced: lack of awareness\, non or misdiagnoses of the disease plus the lack of medically funded treatment\, education and diagnostic testing continue to be the leading issues where BCLA directors focus their energy.  \n  \nNoteworthy:  This event may appeal to students with interest in health care careers from RMT\, PT to Physician/Specialist.  Although not a requirement\, we are wanting to assist Career Ed students with their volunteer hour requirements while getting assistance for an all volunteer non profit organization. \n  \nOrientation will be provided with assistance throughout the day’s event by BCLA Members \n  \nPOSITIONS  \n\nRegistration table (2 persons): The registration table at an event is the first point of contact for attendees. Registration table duties may include:\n\n\nCollecting data: Gathering information about attendees\, such as names\, contact information\, and cross checking with attendee list(s)\nDistributing materials: Providing name tags\, conference bags\, and other swag to appropriate attendees or exhibitors\nProviding directions: Helping attendees find the washrooms; seating or exhibitor tables\nRefilling swag: Keeping supplies stocked if swag is issued at registration table\n\n  \n\nEvent Ushers/Greeters (2 persons): These volunteers provide a friendly\, welcoming and assistive service to event attendees by:\n\n\nWelcoming guests at the entrance to the event area at Evergreen Hall (The Slesse Room)\n\n\nSeating: Help guests find  seats and ensure they are comfortable and have the agenda\nDirecting: Show guests where to find restrooms\, concessions\, and exits\nAnswering questions: Help guests with questions about the event or venue (an agenda will be provided)\nAssisting: Help guests with limited mobility or other special needs\nMonitoring: Look out for safety concerns and report them to a BCLMA member\n\n  \n\nLunch service/cleanup (1 person plus Ushers/Registration Table Volunteers can assist)\n\n\nWorking with BCLMA members to set up buffet table of food items that will come out from Kitchen\nAssure sufficient utensils\, plates\, napkins are available during serving\nAssist plating if any attendees are in need of assistance\nClean any spills on floors to ensure no slipping hazards\n\n  \n\nPhotographers (2) Photos of the event – speakers\, exhibitor tables etc. for web posting\n\nNote: students should have taken photo class or have the skills and camera (quality cell phone) to be able to share by email with BCLMA President (Sandi McConnach) \n\nPhotos will be uploaded to the BCLA web site with recognition given to the student(s)\nVolunteers are to capture numerous pictures of exhibitors\, presenters and overall event activities for review and selection by President/BCLMA members\nWilling to take event photos as requested by the President or Advocate of the BCLMA\nAdvise BCLMA members of any photo difficulties or questions\n\n  \nBCLMA will be providing a letter of acknowledgment of the volunteer contribution(s) and confirmation of the volunteer hours.  We wish to thank all students who express interest and we hope to be able to provide an experience that was rewarding and of personal interest. \n  \nThe volunteer positions will \n\nenable students to indicate to employers or other event venues they have “event” experience and the specifics of each role(s) they fulfilled\nprovide networking opportunities with a number of health care professions in the treatment of lymphedema including Registered Massage Therapist\, Compression Garment Fitters and Bandagers\ngain valuable information on the conditions that contribute to chronic swelling with an ability to inform family and friends who may not be aware of the assistance available and the resources the BCLMA provides on their web page\nprovide opportunity to be considered for future BCLMA events in the area\n\n  \nRegistration fee and Lunch will be covered \n  \nTo Volunteer Contact: \nHeather Flood BCLMA Member \n(604) 819-6430 \nDeadline: February 28th \nFor more event/association information https://www.bclymph.org/

This is a great opportunity to make an impact in your community using your talent and time. \n  \nMS Bike Volunteer Coordinator  \nAs part of the MS Bike Committee\, you will plan and execute an inclusive\, engaging event to connect and empower the MS community in your region.  MS impacts all Canadians\, which is why we urge people to move forward together at MS Bike and help build awareness for the disease\, raising much needed funds to allow us to continue to support people affected by MS.  This is a great opportunity to make an impact in your community using your talent and time. \nThe Volunteer Coordinator will work to fulfill the required volunteer positions for MS Bike weekend. They will investigate and complete local volunteer recruitment activities and assist with the stewardship of volunteers. DESCRIPTION:Ruth & Naomi’s Mission is currently looking for volunteers to help us with our annual Ride For RAN fundraiser. \nLocated in Chilliwack\, Ruth & Naomi’s Mission works with the poor\, the homeless and the addicted by bringing them hope and healing through the love of God.  Volunteering for our annual fundraiser\, you will be partnering with others who are raising funds in support of this organization.  We rely on many community partnerships and as this is one of our largest fundraisers of the year we do need many hands to make it run effectively.  Providing a quality experience for those biking as well as those volunteering is important to us. \nThe event takes place Saturday\, September 17 and depending on the area of involvement would depend on time commitment. \nVolunteer opportunities for the event can be found here: https://sites.google.com/view/ride4ranvolunteers/home. \nFor more information please feel free to reach out to the contact listed below. \n  \nJennifer Yee \n778-933-2456 \njyee@ranmission.ca \nhttps://ranmission.ca

SUMMARY:BC Lung Foundation - 38th Annual Bicycle Trek
DESCRIPTION:Bicycle Trek is a fundraising event hosted by the BC Lung Foundation. Hundreds of participants will embark on the ride of their life for a 200km route through the beautiful Fraser Valley. The ride starts at Fort Langley through to Cultus Lake and back the following day. These dedicated participants are riding in support of the BC Lung Foundations’ ongoing fight against lung disease. \nBC Lung Foundation is currently looking for volunteers to help at this fantastic event. We need motivated\, outgoing\, and reliable individuals to help at various stations including: \n\nRegistration\nArrival Desk at Stillwood – primary duty is setting up the desk and checking in and greeting participants\, collecting donations from participants\nBike Storage  – Filling out a bike repair sheet with participants\, store bikes\, communicate anything to bike mechanics\nCycling Sweep – Cycle the route in pairs to assist riders with small medical or mechanical issues\nFinal Sweep Crew – following the final cyclist in a vehicle to ensure no riders are left behind\, informing rest stops that this was the final sweep in the portion of the ride\, removing route signs\nFinish Line Volunteers – Cher Squad\, checking trekker # as they cross\, directing riders to areas at either Stillwood or Fort Langley\nGear/Baggage loader – Loading and unloading rider gear and supplies\, organizing and arranging gear\nRest Stop Check-in – setting up rest stop\, placing location signage\, prepping snacks and water for riders\, checking off rider #’s as they come in\, cleaning up rest stop\n\n  \nQualifications needed:  \n\nPositive cheerful attitude\nFriendly\ngood communicator\,\nsome roles will require heavy lifting\nability to organize\, take direction\nat times being solution-oriented\nlove being outdoors and able to be outdoors.\nSome roles may require ability to drive and if using their own vehicle we will pay for mileage.\n\n  \nCommitment required (hours\, ongoing days\, etc.) \nThis is a weekend event and we are looking for full weekend volunteers or full-day – Saturday or Sunday.
