The service started in 1984 and is available in over 100 communities across Canada—including Chilliwack! \nA quick phone call puts you in touch with a team of volunteers who will drive you home safely in your own vehicle. \nVolunteers start each night at our headquarters at the Griffin Security Office\, 9300 Nowell Street\, where we provide training and food. SUMMARY:BC Lung Foundation - 38th Annual Bicycle Trek
DESCRIPTION:Bicycle Trek is a fundraising event hosted by the BC Lung Foundation. Hundreds of participants will embark on the ride of their life for a 200km route through the beautiful Fraser Valley. The ride starts at Fort Langley through to Cultus Lake and back the following day. These dedicated participants are riding in support of the BC Lung Foundations’ ongoing fight against lung disease. \nBC Lung Foundation is currently looking for volunteers to help at this fantastic event. We need motivated\, outgoing\, and reliable individuals to help at various stations including: \n\nRegistration\nArrival Desk at Stillwood – primary duty is setting up the desk and checking in and greeting participants\, collecting donations from participants\nBike Storage  – Filling out a bike repair sheet with participants\, store bikes\, communicate anything to bike mechanics\nCycling Sweep – Cycle the route in pairs to assist riders with small medical or mechanical issues\nFinal Sweep Crew – following the final cyclist in a vehicle to ensure no riders are left behind\, informing rest stops that this was the final sweep in the portion of the ride\, removing route signs\nFinish Line Volunteers – Cher Squad\, checking trekker # as they cross\, directing riders to areas at either Stillwood or Fort Langley\nGear/Baggage loader – Loading and unloading rider gear and supplies\, organizing and arranging gear\nRest Stop Check-in – setting up rest stop\, placing location signage\, prepping snacks and water for riders\, checking off rider #’s as they come in\, cleaning up rest stop\n\n  \nQualifications needed:  \n\nPositive cheerful attitude\nFriendly\ngood communicator\,\nsome roles will require heavy lifting\nability to organize\, take direction\nat times being solution-oriented\nlove being outdoors and able to be outdoors.\nSome roles may require ability to drive and if using their own vehicle we will pay for mileage.\n\n  \nCommitment required (hours\, ongoing days\, etc.) \nThis is a weekend event and we are looking for full weekend volunteers or full-day – Saturday or Sunday. DESCRIPTION:The Work\n\nWe’re looking for energetic volunteers to help us with the restoration of Horn Creek Park in Abbotsford.\nThis will involve removing some invasive morning glory and blackberry.\n\n\nWhy It’s Helpful\n\nAbbotsford’s Horn Creek Park is home to a multitude of wildlife. You will be helping keep the park in top condition for the wildlife that calls the area home.\nThe fight against invasive plant species is ongoing. Evacuees from Lytton that are now based across the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley will be bussed in to participate in this event.  This will be the first time their community has gathered since the fire that destroyed their town. There will be a full day’s lineup of indigenous artists and musicians performing on the stage and the event will be streamed live across the country to raise funds awareness for the evacuees and victims of the fire. \n  \nVolunteer Role: Basic help setting up portable tents\, tables\, chairs\, distributing water bottles\, assisting with guests and visitor information\, collecting and removing garbage/recycling\, directing traffic\, possible miscellaneous tasks related to the set-up and organization of the event. \n  \nTime require: Minimum of 2 hours. DESCRIPTION:  \nIn order to increase Chilliwack’s capacity to administer flu vaccines\, the Chilliwack Division of Family Practice and Fraser Health is partnering to provide a mass immunization clinics. We are thankful to the City of Chilliwack and Chilliwack Heritage Park in supporting these clinics. These clinics will be available by pre-booking appointments (link forthcoming) and will be publicized the week of Oct 26. \n  \nDescription of volunteer opportunity: We and are looking for individuals to support the site including set-up and clean-up\, providing and collecting information from patients\, and supporting patient navigation through the site. We would provide any PPE\, hand sanitizers\, etc. that is required and strict physical distancing and enhanced cleaning will be in place. \n  \nQualifications: We are looking for people that are comfortable with working around people with physical distancing in place\, have a sense of situational awareness\, and willing to interact with members of the community. You will receive an information package prior to starting and training the day of. \n  \nCommitment: Volunteers are wanted that are able to commit for 4hrs or 8hrs (exception Nov 2nd is 5hrs).
