Do you have past experience being a caregiver for an older adult, such as a spouse or other family member?

Would you be willing to spare approx. 1 hour each week to connect with an adult who is a caregiver for an older adult?

If so, we would love to hear from you!

The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (Compassionate Neighbours) seeks adult volunteers to support those who are caregivers for older adults by providing one-to-one weekly supportive, social visits.  Volunteers are matched with a caregiver who they will visit on a weekly basis, preferably in person, but there are limited opportunities to connect via telephone calls, or virtually.  The purpose of these connections is to check in regularly with the caregiver as well as to provide a positive friendly visit.  This opportunity provides flexibility and allows you to choose a time and place to connect that is convenient for both you and the caregiver.  Volunteers typically connect on a weekly basis, and each call or visit can range from a quick 10-minute virtual check-in to an hour-long in person visit. Some training will be provided.  Your time spent volunteering will be logged each month to fulfill grant requirements and to provide recognition at the end of your time volunteering with us or on request for education or employment references.

Successful applicants will:

  • Agree to an interview by phone
  • Complete Compassionate Neighbours’ orientation process (submit a volunteer application form, attend a virtual orientation session, complete a police information check, and sign volunteer consent forms)
  • Submit a clean police information check (can be completed online via the iVolunteer site, or contact us if you prefer to submit a paper copy to the local police station. Canadian citizenship is required for the police information check.)
  • Live in Chilliwack (or nearby and be willing to come to Chilliwack to visit the caregiver in person.) Use of a car will be required.
  • Possess past, informal caregiver experience for an older adult
