Volunteers to Facilitate Monthly Seniors Group Social Luncheons at an Apartment Complex in Chilliwack

Do you possess leadership skills and have an interest in facilitating conversations with a group of senior residents living in the same apartment complex?                                                                                         Would you be willing to spare 1.5 – 2hrs each month to connect with a group of seniors over a shared meal?

If yes, we would love to hear from you!

The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (Compassionate Neighbours) recently received a grant to fund a new social meals program.  Volunteers will be matched with a senior’s apartment complex and will share a monthly meal with a group of seniors in the apartment complex.  Meals for both volunteers and seniors will be provided.

Once per month, volunteers will:

  • Pick up prepared meals at 11:30am from a designated kitchen for all participants.
  • Bring the meals to the senior’s complex.
  • Assist to set up tables and chairs as needed, and serve the residents their meals.
  • Eat the meal together over a one-hour social time with the seniors & encourage/facilitate conversations
  • Provide meal options for the following month and note participant’s choices
  • Return the insulated bag and garbage

These activities will take place monthly on either a Wednesday or a Friday.

Successful applicants will:

  • Agree to an interview by phone
  • Complete CNHPS’s orientation process (submit a volunteer application form, attend a virtual orientation session, and sign volunteer consent forms)
  • Submit a clean police information check (can be completed online via the iVolunteer site, or contact us if you prefer to submit a paper copy to the local police station – Canadian citizenship is required to complete this)
  • Live in Chilliwack or be willing to come to Chilliwack to participate and have a vehicle for transportation
